The world renowned touring franchise Cirque Du Soleil is back in Toronto for TOTEM, an inventive and captivating journey through the evolution of mankind, running at the Grand Chapiteau Port Lands theatre from August 10 - October 9.
TOTEM is a mystical adventure following the growth of the human species that takes us all the way from an amphibian perspective up to man's ultimate desire for aviation. The stage is designed to replicate a giant turtle which signifies the symbol of origin for many historic cultures, and each character faces their own unique development during the progression of the show.
With deep roots in ancient mythology, TOTEM uses acrobatic and visual dialogue to explore a species that is constantly progressing. By finding a common ground between fact and legend, the audience is plunged into a realm where dreams come to life and the true potential of man is uncovered.
Cirque Du Soleil Founder and Creator Guy Laliberte knows what it means to be successful. The Quebec native spent many years as a stilt-walker and fire-breather on the streets of Quebec before cultivating his life's work into Cirque Du Soleil in 1984.
In 2009, Laliberte became the first private Canadian space explorer. He travelled with the intention of spreading awareness for his One Drop foundation which raises funds for countries that lack proper water treatment and supply. Laliberte has received the Order of Canada, and has been named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people.
The Grand Chapiteau - Port Lands theatre is an ideal venue for such a highly regarded show. The 850 person capacity building features crisp acoustics, comfortable seats, and an unobstructed view for every guest.
