Slow down your Sunday with some pick-up hockey.
If there's one thing better than watching your favourite NHLers take the ice, it's lacing up the skates yourself.
This Sunday, we recommend doing exactly that. With the NHL All-Star Game approaching, let's take to pick-up hockey to practice our best moves.
One Chill reader, Will Clark, is ahead of the program. The rink in the photo above is actually from his backyard. Quite impressive, if you ask us.
Here's Will's story:
"I am 37 years old, a lady at work saw my Backyard Rink and told me to send you a picture with a short story. I proposed to my wife in front of the Stanley Cup at the [Hockey] Hall of Fame. We bought [our] home with no intention of [having] a rink, but, over the years, have cut down 15 pine trees to make it bigger.
The dimentions are 73ft long and 44ft wide. Every year I celebrate Hockey Day In Canada. This year, it is Feb 12th. Festivities begin at noon where we sing O'Canada, and as it gets dark, all of the lights come on, we play till about 6:30 so we can catch the Leafs game. Tuesday nights all my buddies come over and play, we have two goalies and play 3 on 3 with a couple of spares. My 2 year old boy Jagger is always wanting to play and loves to watch on Tuesday night. But none of this could be done without my very understanding wife who understands my obsession to make a great rink. I love my rink!!"
