October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month -- the one time of year that even the world's most manly of men show the soft spots of their hearts.
Athletes around the world have been decorating themselves in pink to raise awareness for breast cancer.
The NFL kicked things off, as many of its players have been wearing pink shoelaces, gloves and/or ribbons. Soon after, NHL players began using pink sticks. However, Rick DiPietro, goaltender of the New York Islanders, is taking his support one step further -- pink goalie equipment.
Since his gear is brand new, DiPietro will only wear the pads in practice until he is comfortable bringing them into a game.
With the athletic world on board, one can only hope that a cure is found. And found soon.
